Garrett Gaston
Strength & Performance Coach
Where were you born/where are you from?
I was born in the greater Saint Louis area, I'm originally from very rural Missouri. I lived in San Diego 2011-2014, back to Saint Louis from 2014-2018 and now I've been in L.A. since December 2018.
What is your specialty?
As a personal trainer, I enjoy helping people achieve whatever their goal may be, but increasing strength is probably my favorite/specialty.
When and where did you start training?
I originally started training MMA at Destruction MMA, which led me to pursue improving my fitness for fighting. Then after finding out personal training was a job, I pursued it relentlessly! Like I said, small town Missouri in 2009-10, I had no idea personal trainers were a thing!
Accomplishments/Competition Experience/Certifications
NCSF Certified Personal Trainer
AFPA Certified Specialist in Sports Conditioning
ISSA Certified Fitness Trainer
Purple Belt/Competitor in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/No gi grappling
1-0 in amateur MMA
Former semi-professional rugby player
What are your training/teaching related goals?
I'm fortunate to have two passions that complement each other. My goal is to work full time as a trainer/coach and allow that to give me the opportunity to train enough to compete at the highest levels of no gi Jiu-Jitsu.
What do you like about teaching?
My favorite part about teaching/coaching is seeing someone have a break through moment and realize they are capable of more than they previously thought!
What do you like to do outside of coaching and training?
Outside of training my favorite things to do are hike, go to the movies, and write music.
What is something you would like to share with your students?
Don't be overwhelmed by setbacks! As frustrating as they can be, once you get past them you'll see they were just small obstacles to get through. Don't let them derail you!
